Farewell Tasmania

Our farewell report from Tasmania

This is a photograph of a Tasmanian resource that we tasted with some relish. They were collected from the farm and this involved a 30 minute discussion that Katherine had with the German born farmer and subsequent purchase of 2 bottles of his wine.

Both tasted and have been enjoyed, in the past tense.

This little wooden carved man was watching over a stream in Latrobe near the platypus stream, was he looking for platypus !!





This is at a cheese factory that was one of our stops for food , was Katherine looking for milk or cheese here - neither would come from the cow that she was leaning on. Needless to say like the strawberries we purchased some nice cheeses at the "Ashgrove" cheese factory.

This is the inside of a cave that we visited, unfortunately Mike left some blood on one of the cave roofs that decided to caress his head.


However the stalactites and stalagmites were very impressive and together with the glow worms this proved to be a staggering event in more than one way.






This represents millions of years of drips.

The next series of Photographs were taken at Sheffield, the day way not kind to us in that it was cold and showered rain a lot - but the Murals on the town walls were impressive.

A thought occurred to us during our stay here was why no graffiti - there was not much for the young people to do in the town of about2,000 inhabitants. They must doing something right.!

Each Mural has a story associated with the history of the town.

This is one of the many hydro-electric dams that have been constructed throughout Tasmania.

We found most of them most picturesque. The local community however are divided. The ones that wanted less development we noted were still using firewood as a fuel for winter, so much for global warming!!. In fact most houses throughout Tasmania had huge stacks of wooden blocks outside the house for winter fuel.

We came to Tasmania for about 3 weeks but stayed for 7 weeks, that in short tells the story of our Tasmanian reflections.
To those who have followed the photographs over those seven weeks will be aware of the Tasmanian treasures, they cover history, flora and fauna and we have availed ourselves of all in full measure. This was helped by the ease of which we were able to move around the State and equal ease with which we were able to find overnight parking places. these were as varied as the State could provide, from deep within the rain forest to beautiful riverside spots and central town reserves enabling easy access to local entertainment.

Congratualtions Tasmania you are truely RV friendly. This is bourne out by the large numbers of Motor homes and caravans on the roads.
